Visitors are welcome to hunt with the permission of the Masters. Ideally, guests are accompanied by a sponsoring member who contacts the Masters for permission in advance of the meet.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at the meet at least 30 minutes before hounds move off. Before you mount, the Field Secretary will need your signed waiver (can be found in the "Documents" section of our website) and capping fee. Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or custodial adult. Capping during cubbing season (prior to Opening Meet in early November) is $100; during the regular season (end of October through March) capping is $150. The cap for juniors is $25 and they must be accompanied in the field by a supervising adult. There is a limit to 4 caps person, per season.
Attire during cubbing season and on weekdays during the regular season is ratcatcher (tweed jacket, collared shirt or turtleneck, earth-tone breeches, black dress or brown field boots) and a protective helmet with chin harness. Weekend meets during the regular season (after the first week of November) are formal and a navy or black jacket with stock tie, wheat or canary breeches, black dress boots, and protective helmet are required. For more information on attire, please see the "Attire" section of our website.
Anyone over the age of 12 who fox hunts even one time is required to have a current Virginia hunting license. You do not need to complete the Mandatory Hunter Education if mounted foxhunting is the only type of hunting you do. As of summer 2022 the cost is $23 for ages 16-64, $8.50 for ages 12-15, and $9 for 65 and older.
Licenses are available online or by calling the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries at 1-866-721-6911.
